River Cottage, Mojstrana

On the edge of Mojstrana, at the foothill of the central Julian Alps and our renowned alpine valley Vrata lies the lovely River Cottage. The house was named after the stream Bistrica which runs nearby and brings the water down directly from the Triglav north wall. The house has recently been renovated in a pristine local style. The outside is embellished with a wooden facade and a typical wooden balcony, while the inside hides antique wooden furniture and exposed roof beams. River Cottage is a wonderful starting point for various activities in Slovenian Alpine region.

The small house, in which Justi and Roy (a lovely British couple) created their home, offers two rooms to the guests. The bigger one has a double bed, two chairs, a television and a private balcony facing south and overlooking the Julian Alps. The steep steps in the room lead to the attic, where you can find 3 additional beds, so the room can accommodate up to 5 people and is ideal for families. The other room (a bit smaller) has two separate beds, and there is a nice shared bathroom for both rooms in the corridor. You can prepare coffee or tea in the rooms, there is also free wireless internet connection.

On the ground floor you will find a common dining room, where breakfast is served. Justi and Roy are keen hikers and cyclists and have lived in Slovenia since 2002. They have even written 2 hiking guidebooks about Slovenian mountains, so they will be more than happy to give you some advice. They also offer cycling holidays with route maps, advice and will arrange airport pick-up if you wish to bring your own bike. On top of that, Justi is also an experienced English teacher and you can arrange English lessons in the garden, in the pleasant shade of a pear tree...

Mojstrana is an excellent starting point for cycling or hiking tours of various difficulties. In the immediate vicinity you can visit the Slovenian Alpine Museum, take a walk under the Peričnik waterfall, or climb up the mighty Triglav north wall. In winter you will probably go skiing in the nearby Kranjska Gora, but there is a local ski slope in Mojstrana as well. The adrenaline lovers will enjoy the ice climbing spot Mlačca, which is only a few-minute walk away and where you can see a living ‘ice’ Nativity scene during Christmas.
